What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

What I liked most about the Carone Learning course that I took is that the website is helpful as well as easy to operate. Also, my instructor was always available and responded within a couple hours if I had a question on an assignment. The course was not only educational, but encouraged me to live a healthy lifestyle.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

The Carone Learning course taught me how to manage my daily personal life and exercise, and how to create my own workout plan. Along with teaching me the importance of how to develop a daily healthy life.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

During the Carone Leaning course my level of health and fitness have both improved tremendously! As I am approaching the end of my semester, I have lost 20 pounds due to my weekly fitness routine that I developed for my course! It is life changing.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

My cFitness Academy instructor was absolutely wonderful. I could not have asked for a better instructor. She helped me with assignments as well as responded to my emails within a couple hours. She was also understanding and would help me manage my time with my personal life, school life, and my class on Carone Fitness. If I would not be on my class for a few days, she always checked up on me through email and would keep me on task.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for this course through my school counselors, because I am graduating a year early and could not fit physical education into my schedule which is needed to graduate.

Please share any other comments you have about cFitness Academy or your Carone Learning course.

I have taken multiple classes online, not just physical education but other subjects, and Carone Learning was my hands-down favorite. I wish they had more subjects available! I highly recommend Carone Learning to anybody!

Here’s what Brooke’s teacher had to say about her:

“Her work has been high quality all semester long, and she even got ahead with most of the work early on. Her communication with me has been consistent and she asks questions when needed. I’ve also been delighted with her personal fitness and health goals that she’s been working on over the semester and am excited about the progress she’s made.”

In Brooke’s Group Sports class she reflected on the goals she set at the beginning of the class, here is one of her goals and her reflection on it:

  • Goal #3: Adapt to a daily workout routine.
In the class I had to create many different workouts to meet the weekly requirements. Although, I went beyond with the requirements, I developed a daily exercise workout that I can follow through with and will fit perfectly with my schedule. The past few weeks, I have adapted to one specific routine which I am going to stick to but I’ll always be pushing myself to be better.

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Brooke is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Brooke!

It has worked for me. I can work when I can on my time schedule.

Here’s what Preston’s teacher had to say about him:

“Preston is great about getting things in on time, I know how hard that can be when working in a course outside of school.”

In Preston’s Health & Personal Wellness class he has been working on his personal health habit of getting in better shape before baseball season starts. He reports his progress each week, with realistic barriers and ways to over come them.

“I have done about one fourth more of sit ups than I use to be able to. The time constraints in the morning to get ready for school were some of the insignificant barriers. My baseball coach has encouraged me by telling me to keep up the good work.”

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Eli R.!  Eli is taking Health and Personal Wellness , he is working toward being a physical therapist. He goes to a very small school and so taking online health is helpful to his schedule at school. Find out more about Eli.Eli R

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

What I like most about the course is that like some of the classes I take, you have to take in so much in one day. That’s why I like this course because you can learn the hardest topics piece by piece.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I think so far it is healthy relationships because I had no idea what a healthy relationship was before this course. In a way it can help me it can help me look at my own relationships and help me make decisions about what I can do to make a better relationship. I can also help others if they need help creating a stronger bond.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

One way this has helped me improve is before this course I only thought health was being fit and eating well but I was very wrong. This course has helped me improve strengthen all of my different types of health. My two most improved is Social health and Healthy relationships. These lessens have helped me to interact with others in a different and more respectful way. These lessons have also taught me how to make the most logical decisions mentally and socially.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

My instructor Rhonda Wheelwright has helped me in a lot of ways. The first thing is that when I was introduced to Rhonda she wasn’t weird to talk to, she was very welcoming to this course and that made me more comfortable. Everything that I would ask she would answer in the most understanding response. Rhonda has also helped motivate me to improve my grades by telling me great job, keep it up all the time and that motivated me.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

First of all I have been wanting to be a Physical Therapist for a while and before I took one of those classes I am required to take this class and I am glad that I was required to take this class and learn about all the different types of health. The way this has been beneficial is his has helped me see all the different types of health and how to improve yourself and help others.

Please share any other comments you have about cFitness Academy or your Carone Learning course.

I love the assignments, I’m always exited to do those because sometimes they give you fun activities that you can learn from

Here’s what Eli’s teacher had to say about him:

“Eli always works hard and does his best, is through and caring with answers and I can tell that the information that he’s learning is important to him.”

In Eli’s Health and Personal Wellness class he was asked how he would help a grieving friend, this was his response:

First I would figure out what step [of the grieving process] they are in to figure out where they are. I would always be there to talk and listen if he needs to at any time. I will try not to ask questions that make the problem worse. I will also bring up good memories about the loss to make them happier. I would also respect their grieving and maybe even cheer them up with a little note.

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Eli is pretty great and we’re proud to have him in class! Thanks, Eli!

online coursework Just as with face to face courses, best practices have been established for online learning to ensure students receive the high quality education that they need.  Standards of quality for online courses have been outlined by organizations such as the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) and Quality Matters. At Carone Learning, we pride ourselves on consistently meeting and exceeding these quality standards. Help Your Child Succeed in Online Learning

Online learningOnline learning can be a major advantage for your child. The flexible schedule is a lifesaver for kids with complicated schedules and obligations. Students get to set their own goals and focus on the areas where they need the most help with personalized curriculum. Through online learning, students can also receive personalized feedback from a highly qualified instructor.

However, distance education can come with its own challenges. As a parent to an online student, it can be hard to know how best to support your child’s learning. Here are some tips to help you both succeed:

Have a Set Schedule

Although one of the many benefits of online learning is the flexibility, it’s still important to have special times reserved just for learning. If your child simply waits until the whim strikes them, they’ll get distracted with other things. As much as you can, set a definitive schedule and help your child stick to it every day. Monitor breaks and make sure that they’re just that–breaks–instead of an excuse to get distracted.

Give Them an Appropriate Space

Have a zone (in your house, or elsewhere) specifically reserved for learning. This will put your child in the right mindset for online learning. They’ll need sufficient computer resources and tools, but they also need to have minimal distractions, so it might be appropriate to set up restrictions on the internet for certain study-only times.

They’ll also need enough space for whatever activities the course requires. If there are physical exercises involved, your child will need an area to perform activities, and any exercise equipment would be welcome as well. Support them with all the materials and resources they’ll need to be on top of their game.

Be Involved in their Learning

Most online learning takes place using technology-enabled interface with the curriculum and instructors. Although this one-on-one learning is effective for most students, it’s still nice to have someone to talk to in person about the subject matter. As a parent, you have the power to help ignite passion for the subject in your child. Learn what your child is excited about in their course studies, and discuss it. Be in contact with their instructors so you know what they need to work on, and above all, keep track of their schedule, deadlines, and personal goals so that you can follow up regularly.

At Carone Learning, we believe that parents are a vital part of each student’s education. We want you to be actively engaged in your child’s success, and we partner with you to make it happen. Contact us for more information.

“She has finished up all of her work already, except the fitness logs. Her course is not over for a few more months, however , she has completed all of the assignments, and the journals.”

Meet Student of the Week Baleigh W!

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Baleigh W.!
Baleigh is currently taking First Aid and Safety. She really enjoys it, and finds it helpful for everyday life.

 BaleighW_SOW

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

I like that I can work at my own pace, that way I can ensure I’m doing all my assignments up to my full potential.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

Considering that I am taking first aid, I have learned how to evaluate a person whom may be ill or injured. By doing this, I can see signs when a person isn’t acting right. This will help to detect injuries or illnesses early on, which could potentially save someone’s life.

Has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

Yes, it has taught me things to do, to keep me clean and healthy. Even small things and habits I start can improve my heath over time.

Has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

Yes, very much so. Mrs. Wheelwright keeps up with my progress and sends me emails every so often to let me know how I am doing. By doing this, it helps me stay on track.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I had finished my first online class with plenty of time to spare. I didn’t want to just sit around and do nothing. I am currently in a Patient Care Technician class at our Career and Technical Center. By taking First Aid, I can already see vocabulary and skills that I have learned in both classes that go together.

Please share any other comments you have about cFitness Academy or your Carone Learning course.

I believe this class has already helped me tremendously and I have not even completed it. I have learned so many things that will benefit me as I continue my education to become a Registered Nurse.

Here’s what Baleigh’s teacher had to say about her:

Baleigh pays attention to detail and is very thorough and thoughtful with the work she does.

In Baleigh’s First Aid class she has been exploring how to help others in many situations.  As part of an assignment she identified how to help others in the scene of an accident.

Question: What are some clues that would tell Alex that the scene is not safe to approach? Once the scene is deemed safe, what should Alex do to assess the people involved in the car accident?

Baleigh’s Response: Some clues that would tell Alex the scene was not safe to approach would be the road conditions, if he could see blood inside the cars, or if the cars kept sliding due to the conditions of the road. If it was deemed safe, he should go to each victim and ask them if they were okay, if they were in pain, and if they didn’t answer in some way, he would know that they were unconscious. He should then call the ambulance and fire department. He should not try to move the victims only stay with them to make sure nothing else happens.

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Baleigh is great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Baleigh!

PE: The Solution to America’s Health Crisis?

Kids at RecessUnless you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of decades, you are well aware that America is having a health crisis. Every year, our nation pays $320 billion to treat cardiovascular disease and stroke. Every year, we pay $300 billion to treat Type 2 Diabetes. While the causes of these diseases are diverse and can’t just be limited to one thing, the vast majority of these cases could be treated, mitigated, and even prevented with proper diet and exercise.

Inactivity has been called the new epidemic. In fact, some studies show that a sedentary lifestyle is even more damaging to your health than smoking. More people die each year from health effects of a lack of movement and exercise than do from the many health problems caused by smoking.

What’s the Fix?

The problems has gotten out of control, and it’s hard to see how we can make changes as adults who are already confronting these health problems.

However, we should be able to find a solution for our children.

Obesity among children has doubled in the last 20 years, and among adolescents, it’s tripled. 80% of the children in the US are at risk for health problems that are related to inactivity. And yet, there’s never been a time in our history when we’ve put less priority on the solution!

Physical Education Is at an All-Time Low

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that youth and teens participate in at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity.  According to the CDC, only 29% of high school students receive daily physical education. Each year we are seeing numbers drop more and more when it comes to the number of children and youth who are involved in physical activities in and outside of school.

In an attempt to cut education budgets, many schools have dropped PE altogether. Even schools who still have physical education programs are getting by with less than $1000 a year budgeted. To make matters even worse, many schools are cutting back on, and even eliminating, recess, arguing that this leaves more time and resources for academic work. It’s obvious that even though physical activity has been proven to improve academic performance, it’s being given shamefully low priority in our public schools.

Benefits of Exercise

Just in case we need to enumerate the many benefits of exercise, here’s a list:

  • Exercise – even a minimal amount – greatly reduces your risk of diverse health problems; cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, and also things we don’t hear about as often, like vision problems and gum disease.
  • Exercise boosts mood and can even counter severe mental illness like depression and schizophrenia.
  • Exercise leads to better interpersonal skills among children, making for healthier communities and more opportunities for that child in the future.

Physical Education Benefits Individuals for Life

The real question, perhaps, is whether physical education actually has a positive impact on habits and lifestyle beyond the classroom (or gym or field). The answer is yes! Adults who had PE classes are twice as likely to live active lifestyles. A taste of the benefits of physical activity when we’re young will carry on into our lives as we grow.  Even higher results are shown if a physical education program teachers principles about health and fitness and allows students to practice self-management skills.  This is exactly the kind of program students can find at Carone Learning– PE that is personalized to their needs and interests where they learn the skills and principles they need to be successful for life.

If your child isn’t benefiting from a physical education program, they’re missing out. You can change that with Carone Learning. Check out our options for online physical education courses that can give your child a healthy foundation for a lifetime.

4 Signs Online Learning is for You

At home learningWith schedule constraints and a need for more personalized programs, it’s time for a new way to learn about health.

Online learning is here to fill the gap. After all, modern technology enables us to create customizable solutions for health and physical education. At Carone Learning we teach in the way that most modern students learn best; using online media and guidance to enable self-motivated learning.

However, anyone who has taken an online course knows that it takes more than a username and password. It requires a certain degree of personal accountability, and an affinity for technology-enabled communication. Here are 4 signs that you (or your child) will be able to succeed with our online health, physical education, or career courses:

1: You Thrive with a Personalized Curriculum

Health and fitness are such personalized subjects, it’s difficult to use a one-size-fits-all model. Furthermore, negative social pressure in some schools can provide an atmosphere where it’s hard to succeed for many students. However, with online learning, you are able to create a well-rounded exercise program, explore your personal interests, and determine your level of social interaction in physical activity.

2: You’re a Self-Motivated Learner

You like to set your own goals, and explore things that you’re curious about. Most children start with this mindset. They love to learn, and are endlessly curious. However, squeezing students into standardized measures and methods can drain a child’s thirst for learning. Online learning can re-spark the love of learning, and the satisfaction in physical exertion that all of us naturally have. Paired with the support and resources that an accredited program can provide, many students succeed in online learning much better than they do in traditional programs.

3: Your School Schedule Is Cramped

Many online students participate in this way because the focus of their life makes traditional school schedules impractical. This might be due to:

  • Health challenges
  • Working ahead or behind
  • Traveling and transitional periods

If your schedule requires flexibility, or your time or physical ability is limited, that doesn’t mean that you should miss out on the advantages of health or physical education, particularly when required for graduation.  Taking an online class can provide the flexibility you need to meet the other demands of your school schedule and your life.

4: You’re Comfortable with Technology

Online learning will, of course, require a certain level of tech-savvy. You need to be able to interact with teachers and other students across a digital interface, including emailing, participating in online discussions, and downloading and uploading assignments or evaluation. If you know how to navigate your way around an online portal and stay organized using computer programs, online learning could be your perfect fit.

Still wondering if online learning is right for you? Take this quiz and see where you stand.

Skills from Online Courses Translate as Lifelong Learning

Health and PE are provide principles that should act as a foundation for continued practice and learning throughout your life. Through personalized learning, you can find what works best for you, and how to support your own health and fitness, even after the classes are over.
