Meet Bradford H.! Carone Learning Student of the Week!

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Bradford H.!  Bradford has enjoyed the opportunity to take an online course that he is interested in exploring for future career opportunities. His school wasn’t able to provide an Exercise Science course, so he was happy to be able to have an online course to help him explore his interests.

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

I like the design of the page and how easy it is to access your assignments and lessons on multiple formats.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I am going on to a possible Exercise Physiology major, so everything that I am learning in this course will help me in the future.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

I am learning new things that I did not know factored into overall health that I did not previously worry about such as flexibility and mental health.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

My instructor gave me a great deal of information at the start of my course, and has encouraged me to do well in the course and the goals I have set myself for the course.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for my course because it was not provided by my school, and taking this course online has been beneficial because it has given me a chance to see if exercise science is something I am really interested in, as well as letting me see what online classes are like.

Here’s what Braford’s teacher had to say about him:

“Bradford (BJ) has a fantastic start in his Exercise Science course. His discussions have been thoughtful and he has excelled on his exams and quizzes thus far.”

In Bradford’s Exercise Science class there is an opportunity to discuss if technology has had a positive or negative impact on fitness in America. Here is Bradford’s response:

“Personally, I believe that technology has positively impacted fitness in America. It has led to the invention of devices that make it easier for the common person to get started exercising. Examples of these devices include fitness watches, cardio equipment with screens showing data that includes the amount of calories you have burned, and online access to personal trainers and fitness programs. Technological advancements have also allowed for better ways of studying exercise and fitness. Researchers can easily communicate their findings with one another, and using data coming from the inventions mentioned above give them more in depth data coming from a wider range of people to study. All of this has been available through technological advancements, so I would have to say that technology has been a positive thing for fitness in America.”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Bradford is pretty great and we’re proud to have him in class! Thanks, Bradford!

Meet Kylie C.! Carone Learning Student of the Week

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I have learned to create medical terminology words and how to decipher them by their prefix, root word, and suffix.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

My instructor has answered every question I have asked about the course and has always kept me updated on the new things happening in the course.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for this course to further my education in medical terminology. This course has been beneficial in teaching me new things that will help me with my future career in the medical field.

Here’s what Kylie’s teacher had to say about her:

“Kylie is doing a phenomenal job in Medical Terminology. I believe this is her first time taking an on-line class, but she has jumped right in and done great. I appreciate that she reaches out with any concerns or questions, responds to feedback, and pays attention to the details. Nice job, Kylie.”

In the Medical Terminology course Kylie was asked make up a new terms and give a definition based on what she learned about prefixes, root words and suffixes; here’s what she came up with:

”Polyneurectomy: Surgical removal of many nerves
Dyscephalesthesia: Bad sensation of the head
Monoglioscope: Instrument for visual examination of one neuroglia
Pericerebrology: The study of around the brain
Hyperneuritis: Inflammation above a nerve”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Kylie is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Kylie!

Meet Olivia M.! Carone Learning Student of the Week

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Olivia M.!  Olivia participated in our Group Sports course. She dances and enjoyed the opportunity to improve her strength training, which she hasn’t focused on as much in dance. She also like that the course provided review material, which she feels helped her avoid confusion.

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

I like that I am able to review the chapter content so easily and that it provides examples for everything to avoid confusion.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I have learned multiple ways to check my heart rate and that’s very important. Also, I’ve learned that time management is very necessary.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

It has pushed me to do more strength training which is what I was lacking in dance.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

She has been very understanding with the internet. Sometimes, my documents just submit as blank and instead of just counting it as a 0, she lets me resubmit. Also, she taught me many ways to check my heart rate when I was struggling.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for this course because I don’t have room for an actual gym class in my schedule because I take a lot of AP and honors classes. It has been beneficial because I’ve been able to do both.

Here’s what Olivia’s teacher had to say about her:

“Olivia has excelled in this course. All of her assignments have been high quality, thorough, and detailed. She logs in regularly and is on top due dates. She has also been pleasant to work and communicate with. I appreciate that she is willing to bring in past or hypothetical examples/experiences into her discussions and assignment responses too, which helps her relate and comprehend the content better.”

In all our courses students participate in class discussions. One of the prompts in Olivia’s course is: “When taking lessons or participating on a team, a coach or leader may give you constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is feedback about something you are doing wrong so that you can improve, the feedback is generally meant to be helpful, not hurtful. Why is is important to not get personally offended or hurt when receiving constructive criticism?”  Here is Olivia’s response:

“It is important not to get personally offended by constructive criticism because your instructor is only trying to help you and keep you from hurting yourself. They want to protect you and help you get better. For instance, if a dance instructor tells someone not to roll over on their ankle while on your toes, it is so you don’t hurt the outside tendon in your ankle. Receiving feedback can help you improve because if you take the correction and implement it, you will not make the same mistake again, thus, becoming better at your activity.”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Olivia is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Olivia!

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

The Carone Learning courses have taught me so much about the human body and medical terminology. So, far, I have learned about the skeletal, muscular, and digestive system, and I am very excited to learn much more.

How has your Carone Learning course helped your improve your level of health or fitness?

Thanks to Carone Learning, I have improved my health and fitness by eating a healthier diet filled with calcium and vitamin D and exercising more so my bones are able to grow.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

Mrs. Kooyman is very helpful, and she cares a lot about her students’ grades. Whenever I message her, she responds quickly, and if I ask her a question about something I didn’t understand in the lessons, she explains it in a way that I will understand.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology through the cFitness Academy because I am interested in going into the medical field after I graduate from high school, and it has been very beneficial to me by teaching me what I need to know for my future plans in medicine.

Here’s what Emily’s teacher had to say about her:

“It is a pleasure having Emily in both Anatomy and Medical Terminology. She works hard, making sure she understands the content thoroughly. She takes initiative, reaching out when there are questions or concerns. Finally, she pays great attention to details.”

In the Anatomy course Emily has a lot of memorizing and studying to do. The unit exams can be rigorous, but students say that they learn a lot when they study as well as use the study guides and hints.

Mrs. Kooyman let us know the following:

”Emily just scored a perfect score on her Unit 2 exam! This exam covered the digestive and skeletal systems. Great job!”

Meet Jessica B.! Carone Learning Student of the Week!

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Jessica B.!  Jessica is just finishing up her nursing course with us. She is going to college in the fall and is excited to jump start her studies with the nursing courses, and benefit from a course that her school doesn’t offer.

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

I like how it is self-paced and how I am still able to complete my online course work with my very busy schedule. I really like the diversity in assignments and the information I learn from research I conduct to complete these assignments. I also appreciate that the tests and quizzes are very fair and content-based however still require you to look at the information in a new way to ensure that you really understand it.SOW_JessicaB

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I want to be a nurse when I am an adult and will be going to college next year to study nursing. I think that this course has given me a great starting platform of knowledge so that when I enter into college I will be able to more quickly grasp the information being taught. Additionally, this course has helped me to definitively say that I want to be a nurse and has made me more excited to soon embark on my studies.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

Although this is an online course and I am working individually, I always felt as if it were a “real” class and that I could always go to my instructor with any questions. She was very friendly and sent me weekly emails with my progress reports and called me at the beginning of my course. I truly felt she wanted to get to know me beyond the computer screen and I really did appreciate this.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up for this course so I could fulfill my high school graduation requirements without compromising my schedule of classes in school that I wanted to take. This course has been beneficial because it is self-paced a flexible. Additionally, a nursing course is not offered at my high school so it was great that I was able to fulfill my requirements with a course I actually wanted to take that will help me in the future.

Here’s what Jessica’s teacher had to say about her:

“Jessica is very detailed in her responses for Nursing. I can tell she has a passion for the subject, which makes me feel like she will help many people in her career as a nurse!”

In the Nursing course Jessica was asked the following question: ‘In general, in addition to understanding a patient’s symptoms, what other information may be helpful in determining a diagnosis?’ Her response shows thoroughness and a mind for nursing.

”Taking a family history to see if a family member had these symptoms and ended up being diagnosed with a certain condition can be helpful in diagnosing the patient. Also, if the patient has traveled recently because that can bring foreign diseases and viruses into play as well. Also, the patient’s past conditions should be considered.”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Jessica is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Jessica!

Meet Sarah Y.! Carone Learning Student of the Week

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Sarah Y.!  Sarah took Anatomy with us and found it helpful to her ballet training to learn more of the human body, it also helped her become more self aware about body movements. She liked that if she was interested in a particular topic there were links where she could research more!

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

I love working at my own pace, it is supremely helpful for my busy schedule and satisfying that I can complete a large chunk of work in a short period of time if I wish to do so. Particular to my Anatomy course, the Worksheets and individual research are my favorite parts, I love choosing what I would like to research and learning as much as I can about it.SOW_SarahY

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

The most valuable thing I have learned through Carone Online is not only new information about the human body, but life skills such as time management, self-discipline, and responsibility.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

I have learned more about the human anatomy and, being a ballet dancer, understanding how, why, and where certain muscles, bones, and ligaments work was fascinating. I am more self-aware because of this course.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

Mrs. Kooyman is a wonderful teacher! She is responsive every time I have a question and is always efficient and kind in her responses.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I am a trainee at BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, and I had to switch to online school to attend daytime ballet classes. I am able to train rigorously both ballet-ically and academically, thanks to cFitness.

Please share any other comments you have about cFitness Academy or your Carone Learning course.

I love how organized and straightforward the course materials and assignments are displayed. I know exactly where I stand progress-wise, and how much of the course I have left. That has been very helpful in completing assignments on time and staying on top and ahead of my work.

Here’s what Sarah’s teacher had to say about her:

“Taking your first on-line course can be a little intimidating, but Sarah jumped right in and is doing a tremendous job. She works hard, always submitting her assignments ahead of pace. She asks questions, genuinely wanting to understand the content. Finally, she is doing great on her quizzes and exams. Wonderful job, Sarah!”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Sarah is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Sarah!

Meet Brenda J.! Carone Learning Student of the Week!

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Brenda J.!  Brenda took Nutrition with us. She took this course to finish credits to graduate and really enjoyed learning about her health and how nutrition can affect her.

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

It’s easy to figure out and the website makes it easy to find everything you need.SOW_BrendaJ

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

I should try to be more healthy and encourage others as well.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

She is very nice and answers all the questions I have.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I am a senior this year and it is a credit so I can graduate. I actually really enjoy it. It helps in real life with health issues people may have.

Here’s what Brenda’s teacher had to say about her:

“Brenda is very communicative and wants to make sure she does well in the course. I have enjoyed watching her become more aware of food and how it affects her in different ways.”

In Brenda’s Nutrition class there weekly reflection journals where you reflect about your nutrition and fitness level. Brenda has some great insights about how nutrition affects her.

Reflection response: I don’t feel too good about my diet this month. It could be much better than what it is. I do try hard but no matter what it does get hard to eat healthy. When you see others eating junk food it makes you want to eat it too even if it is not the healthiest for you. When I eat foods that are good for me (for example a salad) I feel like I can do anything and I have the energy to do it. When you eat junk food it makes you feel like you’re going to be sick or you feel bloated. It makes your emotions go crazy as well.

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Brenda is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Brenda!

Meet Siobhan H.! Carone Learning Student of the Week.

Let us introduce you to our student of the week, Siobhan H.!  Siobhan took Fitness Fundamentals 1 with us and enjoyed the self pacing as well as learning how to incorporate fitness into her life in places and times that she wouldn’t have thought of before taking the course.

What do you like most about your Carone Learning course?

SOW_SiobhanHI enjoyed the self-paced nature of the Carone Learning course. Being able to complete assignments on my own time has allowed me to balance my course work with other responsibilities.

What have you learned in your Carone Learning course that will most help you in your life?

My Carone Learning course has taught me, among many things, how to fit exercise into my daily life. Before taking this course I didn’t realize how many different ways a person can stay active within a busy schedule, and now I find that I have more time for exercise than I realized.

How has your Carone Learning course helped you improve your level of health or fitness?

Specific lessons in the Carone Learning course show you step by step how to create both exercise and nutrition plans that fit into your life. Being able to build and follow plans that are specifically designed for me have showed me what I need to do in order to lead a healthy lifestyle.

How has your cFitness Academy instructor helped you with your course or your goals?

Ms. Richards has been very helpful with reminders of due dates and making sure that I stay on pace with the course. She encourages questions and makes sure that her students have all of the support they need to be successful in this course.

Why did you sign up for a course through cFitness Academy, and how has taking this course online been beneficial?

I signed up to take this course through cFitness Academy because I did not have enough time in my schedule to take it at school. Taking this course online has been very beneficial because it has provided me with every resource and lesson I need to make healthy decisions and improve my level of fitness.

Please share any other comments you have about cFitness Academy or your Carone Learning course.

I have preferred this online fitness course to any gym class that I have taken because it focuses on how to improve your lifestyle specifically. At school I have never received the same kind of individualized support that my Carone Learning course has provided.

Here’s what Siobhan’s teacher had to say about her:

“Siobhan has been a diligent student throughout the course. She’s worked hard to get ahead quickly and yet still provide quality work. She takes her fitness logs seriously as well and has made great progress thus far. I’ve really enjoyed working with Siobhan and I love reading her responses to assignments and discussion boards.”

In Joe’s Family and Consumer Science class there is a unit on decision making. Joe has had to make some really hard decisions, because of his health, for such someone so young.

In each of cFitness academy’s courses there is a place for students to collaborate and share thoughts on certain subjects. In Fitness Fundamentals there is the following ‘team huddle:’

Team Huddle 3.2 Diversity & Inclusion
We live in a culturally diverse society with people of different ages, disabilities, genders, and races.  Although their activity level and preferences may differ, no matter what their social status, all people can benefit from physical activity.

  • How do you think one’s age, gender, or race might affect their physical activity level and preferences?
  • What are some things YOU can do to help others in any age or situation participate in physical activity?

Response:  “Age often is a large contributing factor to a person’s level of fitness. People who are younger tend to have more energy and more easily and readily perform difficult workouts. This allows them to participate in physically demanding activities, such as competitive sports. However, as people age, it can become more difficult to perform the same exercises that were once easy. Their preferences may change to include lower intensity workouts such as brisk walks or water aerobics. Society often depicts certain sports as meant for a certain gender, and this may impact the type of sports that people play. If someone is a girl, they may choose to ice skating over football, and a boy may choose baseball over ballet. Always being welcoming and encouraging of others, regardless of their situation, will allow others to feel supported and comfortable in any type of physical activity that they choose to participate in.”

Just as all of our students are unique, we think Siobhan is pretty great and we’re proud to have her in class! Thanks, Siobhan!
